I realized yesterday that Memorial Day is quickly approaching so I thought I’d share some DIY Patriotic Decor Ideas with you.
We’ve celebrated Memorial Day different ways through the years. Since our children participated in marching band in high school, our observances typically include watching the Memorial Day parade and service in our hometown.
Sometimes we cook out and sometimes we don’t. But, we absolutely always fly our flag and put out a few patriotic decorations. I just love the simple touches of these DIY Patriotic Decor ideas.
A couple of years ago, my husband and our youngest son installed a new telescoping flagpole in front of our house. They even installed a solar light on the top of the flagpole so our flag would be properly illuminated at night. Do you have one of these telescoping flag poles or solar lights? We love them both!
DIY Patriotic Home Decor Ideas
I have a Pinterest board that I call, “Patriotic Ideas” nonetheless. When I run across things I see online that I think is a nice patriotic idea, I simply save it to this board. My hope is that these ideas will be useful to you! Below are a few of my favorites:

Who would have thought that one of my favorite DIY patriotic home decor ideas involved burlap, right?! True story – we were visiting the area of Mason, Ohio over the weekend when we passed by a store (on our way to JCPenney) named “Burlap & Birch”. My husband says, “Wow, that store sounds right up your alley!” He knows me too well!

I do love the rustic touch of burlap, blended with Mason jars filled with hydrangeas and, of course, the Stars and Stripes fabric. And, I just happen to know where you can purchase some beautifully soft burlap ribbon. My friend Carrie from Kenarry: Ideas for the Home now sells burlap ribbon on both Etsy and Amazon.

I am a HUGE fan of drop cloth. I probably like it more than burlap – if that’s possible. I can’t wait to try to make this Patriotic Drop Cloth Pillow from Confessions of a Serial DIYer. You could take this same concept and use outdoor fabric, if you plan to make these patriotic drop cloth pillows for outdoor use. We have an enclosed front porch and I have a couple of chairs just waiting to be the new home for a pair of these pillows!
