How Netflix's V Wars Sets Up a Season 2 (2024)

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Season 1 of Netflix's V Wars.

Season 1 of Netflix's V Wars has placed America in the crosshairs of its bloodiest war ever. With the vampire army known as Blood Nation now increasing by tens of millions, their new leader Calix (Peter Outerbridge) has the manpower to fight the government and anyone else who wants to dwindle his Bloods.

But in the wake of him overthrowing Michael (Adrian Holmes) as vamp leader, Calix's actions have made his enemies even more aggressive as they aim to protect the future of all mankind. With that in mind, let's look at what Season 2 could have in store for humanity and vampire-kind as an all-out war has begun.

THE HUNT FOR DEZ

How Netflix's V Wars Sets Up a Season 2 (1)

Luther (Ian Somerhalder) has evolved in the four-month time jump, transitioningfrom a scientist trying to cure the vampire infection into a soldier ready to kill. He's been tipped over the edge after Calix kidnapped his son, Dez, who's the only person immune to the vampire disease. Luther was planning to use the boy to manufacture a cure but Calix is now in control of that, ensuring his vampire legion can dictate their own fate.

But with Mila (Laura Vandervoort), a vamp-human hybrid (aka a Verdulak a la Marvel's Blade) at his side, Luther has built an army for reprisal. A second season could focus on them finding more Verdulaks and even working with the same U.S. government that tried to stop their mission of peace in the show's first season. Luther could be given more tech and soldiers for the job, creating a resistance that has the potential to be a deadly mix of humans and Bloods. Priority will definitely be searching for Dez, not just because he's his son, but because the boy holds the key to saving the entire planet. We didn't see Michael being killed by Blood Nation either, so if he's alive, he could rejoin Luther as his best friend and brother-in-arms.

BLOOD NATION: OVERDRIVE

How Netflix's V Wars Sets Up a Season 2 (2)

Calix infected the water supply in ten major American cities, with 30 million more potential Bloods coming to his side once their "predator gene" activates. He did this because he knows there's strength in numbers but Calix has other tricks up his sleeve. He's a chemical terrorist and has been eyeingother WMDs for the war. He's already weaponized the biomass (the source of the infection) from the Arctic Circle, which makes him the most feared man alive as he could infect any city, any time.

A second season canlook at him even genetically altering Bloods to make vampire super-soldiers. He's been in cahoots with a mysterious cabal, so it's unclear what other infrastructurethese overlords have to offer. Apart from tech and new strains of vampires, politics could even factor in as these people have been teased assome of America's most powerful infected after the disease spread like wildfire. So while Luther has beenupgrading, Calix has been ten steps ahead, preparing for a militia state.

MISSION: BLUDSUB

How Netflix's V Wars Sets Up a Season 2 (3)

BludSub was the blood substitute Luther tried to mass produce with the government at the end of Season 1. Calix poisoned the first batch and when Bloods died, it led to war as the vamps thought the powers that be who ruled America wanted to kill them. Still, Luther knows the pure batch he initially worked on was successful in the testing phase. Using this, Bloods won't have to feed on humans or animals, making it all about getting itout to Blood Nation and vamps in hiding.

Asecond season could look at the resistance trying to continue mass-producing BludSub, hitting Calix's poisonous lairs and also, getting the pure batch back into the market. Hints were dropped Calix stole the pure batch as well, which would make sense as it'd offer a food supply for his masters. This could also be used as leverage for Blood Nation, and getting the BludSub away from Calix and totally on the side of the heroes would be high on Luther's agenda. It's not just to ensure America isn't overrun by vamps, it's also to help those who want to live with humans again. Luther doesn't believe in starving them so he might even try to make a new product on his own which Calix doesn't have access to.

V Wars stars Ian Somerhalder (Dr. Luther Swann), Adrian Holmes (Michael Fayne), Jacky Lai (Kaylee Vo), Peter Outerbridge (Calix Niklos), Kyle Breitkopf (Dez), Laura Vandervoot (Mila Dubov) and Kimberly-Sue Murray (Danika Dubov). Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
